Winfried Schmidt
Winfried Schmidt (28 February 1915 – 2 August 2009) was a German
Luftwaffe military aviator during
World War II. As a
fighter ace, he is credited with 19 enemy aircraft shot down claimed in approximately 150 combat missions. He was severely injured in aerial combat on 11 July 1941 during
Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union. In consequence, he served in a Luftwaffe staff position for the rest of the war.
